Welcome to the True For You podcast. This is your host, Renee Cupples, and today is day 6 of 40. I'm doing a 40-day series on sadhana, which in yoga is a traditional 40-day practice. The goal is self-realization, and this first week we're covering the basics of sadhana, what is sadhana? Why would you lean into doing something like this? How might you go about doing it? When, what time of day? Where, the location that you're gonna practice in, how you can create a sacred space. And today is about the who, and the who is you - so how to take intentional time for yourself, and why might you lean into a practice like that.
Time for yourself and dedicated to yourself is truly priceless. You are worth your own time. You are worth investing in. And oftentimes it is taking time to just check in and see how you're feeling and allowing yourself space to process what's been going on for you and feel and grieve and laugh and cry and do whatever it is you need to do. Often we're pouring from an empty cup and drawing from an empty well. And what a space like this can do is help you replenish, remind you of who you are and what's important to you.
Kate Lemay used a really beautiful metaphor today that I wanna share, and I'm probably gonna mess it up, but it had to do with her garden, she has a small garden. And it can start with, say, seven corn stalks that you have to trim and maybe tie some together, and three to four end up thriving. And she had us write down every single thing that we did in our day, even if it seemed completely mundane, and then go through and circle which of the things were our corn stalks, right? The ones that we wanted to keep, the ones that stood out for us.
So even something simple like taking a shower can stand out in, you know, just a list of things you did in your day as like a little win. It's such a simple thing, right? You know, maybe just part of your general self-care routine, but taking a shower actually can help you, like, clear your energy and help you feel rejuvenated and clean and fresh and, like, ready to go. So it's actually something that It might seem simple to like make something like that a priority, but there have certainly been times in my life where it's like just doing that is like a serious win, right? Not just even a little win.
So identifying some of those cornstalks, those bigger things in your life, is something that sadhana can help you do. And a lot of times when you're just taking this simple time for yourself, it helps you show up in other areas of your life and focus on the things that are important to you. So that's all about the who, right? It's you, and you're worth it. And I'll be back tomorrow for day seven of 40. We're gonna wrap up week one, our foundations week on sadhana. Thank you so much for listening and for joining along for this 40-day series. I would love to hear your feedback and why you think this might be important for you. I'll talk to you soon. Take care.
